Amanda Thompson was born in the UK. She received a MA Cantab (Modern and Medieval Languages: German, French, Russian) from the University of Cambridge in 1996, an MA (Modern European Literature) from the University of Sussex in 1998 and an MSc (Digital Education, UX Design for Informal Learning on Art Museum Websites) from the University of Edinburgh in 2016. Also, she previously studied spoken and written Japanese to approximately BA standard gaining the Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level 1 (日本語能力試験１級) in 1997.
Computer graphics training at a business school in Japan led to an interest in digital art. She has exhibited in Japan. Her work has been reviewed on NHK TV.
Amanda currently works in Japan. Professional experience outside art includes teaching foreign languages and IT at Japanese universities, schools and companies as well as editing for BBC Worldwide Japan. She is a member of the Computer Arts Society Specialist Group of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT.
